How We Help

Seven services. One integrated, comprehensive Plan.

Most advisors specialize in one or two areas — investments, or insurance, or taxes — and hand the rest off. At Victory Independent Planning, the seven services below operate as a single, coordinated system. Your retirement income strategy informs your tax plan. Your tax plan shapes your investment placement. Your estate plan protects everything you've built.

It's the difference between assembling a financial future piece by piece — and having every piece designed to fit together from the start.

1 Retirement Planning

Turn your savings into income that lasts.

Our proprietary VIP Retirement Glidepath™ is a step-by-step system that prepares you for retirement — and everything that comes after.

Retirement is the most consequential financial transition of your life. The decisions you make in the five years before and the five years after — when to claim Social Security, which accounts to draw from first, how to handle Medicare enrollment, when to convert pre-tax dollars to Roth — will determine whether your money lasts 20 years or 40.

Most pre-retirees have spent their careers focused on accumulation: contributing to 401(k)s, maxing IRAs, buying a house. The decumulation phase requires an entirely different playbook. That's what the VIP Retirement Glidepath™ provides: a sequenced, written plan that addresses each retirement risk in turn, so nothing gets missed and nothing gets rushed.

Whether you're a defense industry professional with deferred compensation, a public employee navigating PERS, or a small business owner with concentrated equity, we tailor the Glidepath™ to your specific income sources, tax situation, and life goals.

For clients in Portland & Naples Oregon residents face one of the highest state income tax rates in the country (up to 9.9%), making Roth conversion timing and withdrawal sequencing especially valuable. Florida's no-state-income-tax advantage opens different opportunities for retirees relocating from higher-tax states. Both situations require a state-aware Glidepath™.

2 Investment Management

Professional portfolios. Disciplined execution.

Custom VIP Portfolios — proprietary investment models built around your goals, risk tolerance, and timeline, not someone else's model allocation.

Most "managed portfolios" are off-the-rack: a handful of risk levels, the same fund lineup for every client at each level. We build something different. Each VIP Portfolio starts from a documented risk assessment, a clear understanding of your income needs, and a tax-aware view of where each holding should sit — your taxable brokerage account, your IRA, your Roth, your inherited IRA.

We manage portfolios across every account type: 401(k) rollovers, traditional and Roth IRAs, brokerage accounts, trust accounts, inherited accounts, and 529 plans. The investment thesis stays consistent across all of them; the location and tax treatment varies based on what's optimal for your full picture.

Markets move. Plans don't have to. Our process emphasizes broad diversification, systematic rebalancing, and tax-loss harvesting where appropriate — all the things that quietly compound over decades while everyone else is chasing the latest hot fund.

Our Investment Management Process

01

Risk Assessment

Documented risk tolerance, time horizon, and income requirements.

02

Portfolio Design

Custom VIP Portfolio aligned with your goals across all accounts.

03

Implementation

Strategic execution with tax-aware placement across account types.

04

Active Monitoring

Ongoing oversight, rebalancing, and proactive adjustments.

3 Tax Planning

Strategic tax planning, integrated year-round.

Patrick's training as an Accredited Tax Preparer (ATP) drives a tax-planning approach that's continuous and strategic — not a once-a-year scramble in March.

Tax preparation tells you what you owe. Tax planning tells you what you could do differently — while there's still time to change the outcome. Every VIP client gets that forward-looking planning: a detailed review of their tax picture and a clear set of strategies for next year and beyond.

We don't file tax returns. Instead, we build the plan and coordinate with your CPA, or support you if you self-file, so everyone is working from the same playbook. In most relationships, that coordination never happens: advisors don't talk to CPAs, CPAs never see the full portfolio, and opportunities slip through the cracks — poorly timed Roth conversions, suboptimal charitable giving, tax-loss harvesting that wasn't done, retirement contributions that could have been higher.

We look at your full picture — every account, every income stream, every deduction you can reasonably claim — and identify the specific moves to make before December 31 so you keep more of what you earn on April 15.

4 Comprehensive Financial Planning

The full picture, nothing missed.

The Check Six Client Discovery System™ is our trademarked process for transforming complicated financial situations into clear, actionable plans.

"Check six" is an aviation phrase — a reminder for pilots to scan behind them for threats that approach from the blind spot. Patrick brought it from his Naval Flight Officer days into financial planning, where the principle applies just as directly: the risks that hurt you are the ones you didn't see coming.

Our Check Six discovery process is a structured sequence of conversations and surveys designed to surface the goals, fears, family dynamics, and obligations that off-the-shelf financial planning software will miss. We don't start with your portfolio — we start with your mission, values, and what you actually want the next 30 years to look like.

From there, we map every financial decision to that bigger picture: cash flow, debt strategy, insurance gaps, education funding for children or grandchildren, retirement readiness, and estate coordination — each addressed with specific recommendations and timelines.

5 Healthcare & Medicare Planning

Healthcare costs, planned, not feared.

A retirement plan without a healthcare plan isn't a plan. Medicare timing, gap coverage, and long-term care need their own dedicated strategy.

Healthcare is one of the largest and least predictable expenses in retirement, and long-term care is the piece most retirees underestimate. The decisions you make at Medicare enrollment, and the coverage you carry through your 70s and 80s, will materially affect whether your retirement savings outlast you.

We help you navigate it. When to enroll in Medicare (and the penalties for getting it wrong). Whether Medigap or Medicare Advantage fits your situation. Whether long-term care insurance, a hybrid life/LTC policy, or self-insuring through dedicated assets is right for you. How HSA contributions before retirement can build a tax-advantaged healthcare reserve.

This is one of the areas where good planning saves the most money — and where bad planning quietly drains a portfolio faster than any market downturn.

Our Healthcare Planning Process

Cost Projection

Realistic estimate of your healthcare costs through age 90+.

Medicare Strategy

Enrollment timing, plan selection, and supplement coordination.

03

04

Annual Review

Plan choices revisited each year during open enrollment.

6 Estate & Legacy Planning

Protect what you've built. Pass it on with intention.

As a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®), Patrick coordinates estate documents, beneficiary strategy, and charitable giving into a unified legacy plan.

Estate planning is more than a will. It's the coordinated combination of legal documents, beneficiary designations, asset titling, life insurance, and charitable strategies that determines what actually happens to your wealth when you're gone — and how much of it survives the transition.

We don't draft legal documents — that's an attorney's job. But we do coordinate the financial side of the plan with your estate attorney, your CPA, and your family. We review beneficiary designations on every account (the most common and costly oversight in estate planning). We analyze whether life insurance is the right tool for estate liquidity. We design charitable giving strategies — donor-advised funds, qualified charitable distributions, charitable remainder trusts — that align your money with your values while reducing your tax burden.

For clients with significant philanthropic intent, Patrick's CAP® credential brings specialized expertise in structuring giving that is tax-efficient, family-aligned, and impact-driven.

7 Risk Management & Asset Protection

Protect the plan from what could go wrong.

Powered by TIFIN Wealth's advanced risk assessment platform, we measure your true tolerance and protect against the downside scenarios that derail retirement.

Risk is the thing most retirees underestimate — and most over-correct for after the damage is done. The portfolio that felt fine in 2021 felt unbearable in 2022. The annuity that "guaranteed" 7% turned out to come with fees that ate the gain. The long-term care policy bought at 70 cost five times what it would have at 55.

Our approach starts with measurement. Through our partnership with TIFIN Wealth, we run a quantified risk tolerance assessment that goes beyond the standard "conservative / moderate / aggressive" questionnaire. We calculate two distinct risk numbers for every client: your personal risk preference and your fact-based, multidimensional risk capacity — grounded in real-world factors like income, time horizon, and stability, not just how you feel about markets today. Navigating between what you prefer and what you can actually handle is the art of risk management.

From there, we customize the right tools: fixed and indexed annuities where they fit (and only where they fit), insurance strategies, asset protection structures, and portfolio adjustments. The Annuity Recharge Method — our proprietary process for evaluating, restructuring, or replacing existing annuities — has helped many clients reduce fees and recapture growth potential.

Common Questions

Questions about working with us.

The questions we hear most often from prospective clients. Don't see yours? Schedule a complimentary consultation and ask directly.

Yes — 100%, in writing, all the time. As an Investment Advisor Representative of Dynamic Wealth Advisors, Patrick is legally required to act in your best interest on every recommendation. Unlike brokers who only meet a "suitability" standard, fiduciaries must put your interests ahead of their own — including when it costs them income. It's the single most important thing to verify when hiring a financial advisor, and it's non-negotiable for us.

We're a fee-transparent practice. For investment management, we charge a clearly-disclosed percentage of assets under management — explained up front, with no surprises. For standalone financial planning engagements, we use flat or hourly fees depending on scope. There are no commissions on the investment side, no hidden trail fees, and no opaque product compensation driving recommendations.

Most of our clients are professionals aged 55 and above — either approaching retirement, recently retired, or actively managing the decumulation phase. Common backgrounds include defense industry veterans, law enforcement officers, small business owners, large IRA holders, and families navigating inherited wealth. What they share is a desire for an advisor who'll do real planning, not just pick funds.

We're flexible. Rather than a hard asset minimum, we look for clients whose situation is a fit for the kind of work we do — meaningful retirement assets, real planning needs, and a desire for a long-term advisory relationship. The complimentary VIP consultation is the right way to determine fit on both sides. There's no obligation, and no pressure.

Yes, we are licensed in all 50 states through our Virtual VIP service. Secure video conferencing, encrypted document portals, and digital onboarding make full-service planning available wherever you live. Many of our long-tenured clients started in person and moved to virtual when they relocated for retirement, with no change in service quality.

If you're within 10 years of retirement, manage a 401(k) above $500,000, recently inherited assets, or feel your current "plan" is really just a collection of accounts — it's the right time to talk. The decade before retirement is when the most consequential decisions get made, and they compound for the rest of your life.

The first consultation is a no-cost, no-pressure 45-minute conversation. We learn about your situation, your goals, and what's prompting you to look at advisors now. You learn about our process, our credentials, and how we work. By the end, both of us know whether there's a fit — and if there is, we'll outline a clear next step. If there isn't, we'll point you toward resources that will help anyway.

At a wirehouse, you typically get a salesperson, a quarterly review, and a product menu approved by the home office. With an independent fiduciary, you get one experienced advisor who knows your name, your spouse's name, and the names of your kids — who is personally responsible for the recommendations, free to choose from the full universe of investment options, and accountable to you rather than to corporate sales quotas. Both models can work; we believe the independent model serves retirees better.
